Crannk Interviews-Bloom- Jono & Jarod

Sydney hardcore band Bloom have stormed into 2022 with their hard-hitting heartfelt single “Sink Into The Soil” and also recently announced a tour aptly named The Sink Into The Soil bringing along Starve and Future Static for the shows, And I caught up with Jono & Jarod to talk about it all.

Combining melodic and fierce instrumentation with emotive lyrics and blazing vocals the band knuckled down to write and record “Sink Into The Soil” remotely with interstate producer Christopher Vernon (Belle Haven, Better Half). As we saw with their 2020 sophomore EP release ‘In Passing’, Bloom are no strangers to tough topics, throwing everything they have into every song they write. “Sink Into The Soil” is no exception, exploring themes of mental illness, self-reflection, and the emotions around growing up with the hopes that things will get better, only to realise that years have gone past and you’ve been digging yourself deeper into a negative emotional state. The band explain: “Sink Into The Soil seeks reasons for finding the courage to get yourself out after years of uncertainty, even when you don’t have the strength yourself. Something many can relate to as our lives are disrupted.

‘In Passing’ saw a turn in lyrical concepts for the band, delving into the emotional anguish and mixed emotions throughout the grieving process. Since the release of ‘In Passing’ amid the pandemic after signing to Greyscale Records in 2020, the band was able to complete a 19 date Australian Tour with Thornhill throughout a brief easing of restrictions, showcasing their energetic live show across the nation. Gearing up for a huge 2022, Bloom will play a set on the coveted Unify Gathering lineup in March and will then embark on their first headline tour, hitting major cities across the country, Taking Melbourne bands Starve and Future Static along for the journey, The ‘Sink Into The Soil’ Tour will visit The Brightside Brisbane on March 18, Hamilton Station in Newcastle on March 19, Stay Gold Melbourne on April 2 for What We Did On The Weekend’s fundraiser show with Deadlights and will round out at the tour at Chippo Hotel in Sydney on April 15.
