Darkher – Realms Review

Darkher, based in the UK, consists of Jayn H. Wissenberg. She IS Darkher. She sings, play the guitar, writes the songs and is also the producer. She has help from her husband, Marthin T. Wissenberg, on the guitars and on drums Shaun Steels (My Dying Bride, Anathema). And toghether they’re building something amazing! A mix of doom, goth and actually singer/songwriter, and the result is fantastic!darkher-realms-500x500

I’m hooked already at the first song, that actually works as an intro to the album. Those dark waves of sound togehter with Jayns singing, that builds expectations, darkness and almost desperation. And when she’s starting to sing, and giving us that slow doom, dragging me down into the darkness, I really got chills!

I actually get some vibes from Opeth and the album Damnation when I listen to Darkher and “Realms”, but with a more dream-like state, and where the Opeth album is just slow and accustic, Darkher is even more dark, and doom-like-heavy. And an even more amazing voice than Mikael Åkerfeldt! 🙂

It’s really hard to pin-point this kind of music. Sometimes I wonder, is this even metal? And in some ways it sounds really experimental. I don’t know what it is, but I do know that it’s fucking amazing! It’s more like a feeling. That strucks right into my heart. It’s like a mixture of My Dying Bride, Opeth, Candlemass and PJ Harvey, and everthing between.

A truly fantastic album, and already I’m waiting for the next album!
