I min sammanfattning av det musikaliska 2014 (här: https://http://www.crannk.com/2014/12/10/det-musikaliska-aret-2014-the-musical-year-2014/) nämnde jag Evergrey och deras “Hymns for the broken” till en av årets besvikelser. Det var fel av mig! Jag erkänner att jag inte hade lyssnat tillräckligt mycket på plattan för att kunna bilda mig en riktig uppfattning.
En riktigt bra platta som faktiskt är den skiva jag saknat efter den fantastiska “The Inner Circle”. Det är ett album som kräver sin lyssning, man måste lyssna in sig på helheten för att förstå, annars framstår det som ett gäng enskilda låtar som var för sig kan bli ganska konstiga och sega. Men tillsammans utgör de en fantastik helhet som är värd en 4:a (av 5 möjliga).

När jag ändå är inne på missar från förra året så måste jag bara få nämna Billy Idol och hans nya alster “Kings and Queens of the underground”. Det var en skiva som kom så sent på året att jag inte tänkte på att nämna den.
Den har på kort tid vuxit till att bli en av förra årets absolut bästa skivor! En tillbakagång till lite tidigare sound, men ändå en viss förändring. Första delen av plattan är lite rockigare, den andra delen innehåller nog mest ballader, men det funkar.
Skivan andas tillbakablickar från en man som faktiskt har vuxit upp och lämnat den punkiga, rebelliska sidan, och gör upp med det förflutna.
Jag läste en recension av skivan på ett forum, där man opponerade sig mot att det var så många lugna låtar, men där kan jag inte hålla med. Som sagt, första halvan är upptempo, och går man tillbaka till Billys Idols tidigare skivor så innehåller de en hel del lugnare låtar, ungefär fifty-fifty.
I mitt tycke så är det hans bästa skiva sedan Charmed Life! Det säger kanske inte så mycket för han har ju bara gjort två “riktiga” album efter det, men jag gillar det!

Well, to start off, I don’t know if the phrase “…make a poodle” exists in the English language, but here in Sweden it means that first you say something, and at a later point, you take it back and admit that you were wrong the first time.
So, here it goes, the above in English:

It was wrong of me! I admit that I had not listened enough on the album to form an accurate opinion.
A really good album which is actually the album I’m missing after the amazing “The Inner Circle”. It is an album that demands its listening, you have to listen to the whoe big picture to understand, otherwise it seems like a bunch of individual songs, each of which can be quite strange and tough. But together, they form a fantastic whole that is worth a 4th (out of 5).

When I still talking about albums I missed last year, I just have to mention Billy Idol and his new creation “Kings and Queens of the underground”. It was an album that came so late in the year that I forgot mentioning it.
It has quickly grown to become one of last year’s best records! A return to the sound he had earlier, but still he has changed. The first part of the album is a bit rockier, the second part contains probably most ballads, but it works.
The album breathes flashbacks from a man who actually have grown up and left the punky, rebellious side, and made a make up with the past.
I read a review of the record on a forum, where they opposed to it was so many quiet songs, but I can not agree with that. That said, the first half is upbeat, and if you go back to Billy Idol’s previous albums they all contain a lot calmer songs, about fifty-fifty.
In my opinion it’s his best album since “Charmed Life”! It says maybe not so much because he has only made two “real” albums after that, but I like it!
I give it 4 thumbs up out of 5 possible!
